Case Study: Quigleys Marina

Quigleys Marina is a family run facility located in Ireland. Based on the Shannon and with around 100 berths, the marina has a long rich history.

We were approached by the client who was looking to update his facilities with a new boat mover to compliment a travel hoist. There was already a 20T hydraulic trailer on the site from a now defunct manufacturer, this was a type requiring significant manual input.

Over the course of a few months we looked at various types and sizes, to ensure we got the best fit for the site and it’s needs. A Roodberg HBC25L unit was selected, the order was placed in early 2025 with the trailer being delivered a few months later.

The trailer was galvanised along with all the other usual standard Roodberg features. The HBC25L has 4 pads as standard, and the drawbar selected was the manually extending version. A remote-control system was fitted to compliment the outfit. The valves setup was moved to the side of the drawbar to allow extra long craft to be carried with no obstructions.

Upon delivery, the trailer was fitted to a recent John Deere tractor and put straight to work.

The marina owner sent us a very nice message: James, what took up to 30 mins plus on old trailer took ten mins today, wow.

Whilst the trailer was in build at the Roodberg factory in The Netherlands, we were also asked to broker and sell the old hydraulic unit as it would soon become surplus to requirements. We did this and soon found a buyer in Scotland, arranging viewings and the transaction. The old trailer stayed on site until the Roodberg was up and running. Our extensive knowledge of this niche sector was again highlighted with this element; we were able to provide detailed technical knowledge and support to both parties.

PDMS were involved significantly in all of these processes, including helping with the setting up between tractor and new trailer – the hydraulic system on the tractor was a different type to what is commonly seen. The customer commented as to whether we thought we knew a little too much about all of this! We strive to please – and if we don’t know the answer, we usually know who will!

A great relationship has been established between all parties – to PDMS this is what it is all about!
